Goodbye for Now

I’ve never been good at goodbyes. The past 3 days have been nothing but tears and hard goodbyes, to people who were complete strangers a month ago. Who knew that someone in another continent could change your life so much and impact your decisions forever? A few memories are flooding my mind about my time in Nsoko. The second day we were there, Dylan (a teammate) and I were on trash duty. We were struggling to light the fire to burn it; the wind was crazy and we had no wood. Outside the fence was KO and Dadada, two kids who hung around the care point. They were telling us to go under the...

What it means to die

Christianity- Dying to your flesh everyday and taking up your cross. What does this mean? It means we have to come to a place in our lives where we see the beauty in the fact that nothing our minds can think of will ever be as astounding as the plan God has for our lives. This isn’t a simple one-time action. This is a repetitive action that MUST take place each and every day, multiple times throughout the day. Over the past 2 weeks of being in Africa, God has laid the phrase “die to your flesh” on my heart every morning. I knew what that meant, so I thought.. Within the...

Learning to Fly

Sawubona! Sawubona means hello in Siswati, which is what my team and I are learning to speak. We so far only have a couple phrases down, but we are learning more and more everyday 🙂    My team is INCREDIBLE. In the short week that we’ve known each other, we’ve become a family. We love spending time together whether that be playing games, killing bats in the team house (true story), just hanging out, or stargazing at the AMAZING stars. They are 12 daughters and sons of the most High God, whose first agenda is to seek Jesus in all that they do. My leaders are equally...

Citizen of Heaven

“Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And whoever does not take up his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will loose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 10:37-39 This is the verse the Lord has put on my heart these past few weeks. I am not gonna lie being in Africa has not been all butterflies and rainbows like I thought it was going to be. Living in Swaziland is not easy in the slightest, the sun is scorching and there are huge...

Window Seat View

I want to take some time to share the view I see every day here in Nsoko, Swaziland. I have been here a week and a half, but it already feels normal to wake up in a room of 13 girls, walk out into the African sun, and spend my days holding kids who can’t speak the same language as me. Each day I walk outside, I am in awe of the beauty of the country I live in and yet overwhelmed by the poverty surrounding me. Take a look through the window into what I see every day: In Nsoko: hot, scorching sunlight; women hand-washing clothes under the umbrella tree; a naked baby sleeping on his brother’s...

Week One Recap

TEAM SWAZI SURVIVED WEEK ONE!! Here’s a quick recap of what we have been up to for the past week.   From the first day at training camp, our team had a genuine bond with each other. None of us were afraid to go deep with people we had literally met that same day which plays a lot into the closeness that our team has already come to know as normal.    After spending 15 hours in the Atlanta airport on Monday the 25th, we boarded our plane for our 15 hour flight at 7:20 p.m and landed in Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday night the 26th. There we met our ministry contact,...
