Are we there yet?

I know for many on our team it has been a long journey to get to this point, our adventure started weeks even months ago as they were accepted and started support raising and figuring out what to pack. It took on a whole new meaning and became more realy as we met our team in person for the first itme at training camp and began to make memories together and connect with our new family but the thought of Swaziland was always in our mind as we counted down the days until our feet would touch the African soul.   If we were little kids we would have driven our parents crazy by now with the...

Love’s not easy but it’s worth it.

Giving up comfort and security to follow God to Swaziland wasn’t easy. In fact, it was one of the hardest thing’s I’ve ever done.    Our house is a hut. Out toilets are holes in the ground in an open metal stall. Our shower is a bucket. Our power goes out randomly. The chickens and dogs poop on our doorstep. We don’t have running water. We rarely have transportation. But what we do have here, is Jesus Christ. He’s still the same. What we do have, is love.      1 John 4:11  Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought...

Welcome to Swazi

Hello!   We’ve all made it safely to Manzini and are settling in rather well. After my cooking mishap (no one has dared to make rice since then) and the monster spider (P.S. we didn’t actually get it out of the bathroom, it’s still dead on the floor, it’s just hidden. J) in our bathroom, we are managing quite well. J   As I’ve slowly come to know my girls better over this past week and a half, I am becoming more and more convinced of God’s perfect placement of them on our team. Although we are all different and maybe not entirely sure what we are doing here in Africa...

Traing Camp: It’s Not What You Think

After everyone arrvied in Atlanta, Kyla (in charge of ‘super fun’) gave us each of our leaders a ‘Super Fun Envelope #1’ in it was instructions and enough money for us to take the Marta. The instructions were to take the Marta and go to the Safehouse.    What it didn’t say was the four city blocks we would have to walk carrying our 75lbs of luggage. In the sweltering heat. When we arrrived the staff gleefully asked us if we were regretting how much we brought.    After a lovely sack lunch/dinner, We had a small training sesssion...

Training in Surrender

These past four days of training camp have impacted me in such a huge way. I really had no idea what to expect. It’s been really hard for me because I’ve been homesick. I didn’t really think about that affecting me during training camp. But I was really struggling with wanting to be two places at once. Yesterday morning, we did this activity that was called a Surrender Hike. We each had a log an we wrote things on it with a marker. We were supposed to write things that we still needed to surrender to God and not take with us on our trip. I felt like I needed to let go of...

Dragon Con. Anyone?

Dragon Con. It seems like you’re either obsessed with it or have never even heard of it. It’s a Sci-Fi game that combines every video game and movie possible. You want Indiana Jones? They got it. You want princesses and goblins? They got it. You want teenage ninja mutant turtles or ax murderers? They got that too. I really don;t understand it to be honest, but to each their own I guess. But it was a great oppurtunity to go out and just talk to people. We took our group of 12 girls and 1 guy leader and walked around Atlanta talking to anyone. We encountered many interesting and...
