africa has taken my heart captive

a 16 hour plane ride and a 5 hour bus ride later we arrived is timbutini a small desolate town in swaziland africa. our living conditions:a small hut with 7 bunk beds. our toliet: stinky/unsturdy tin sheds out back with no doors that just drop into a big hole. our showers: a bucket of water and a cup. our roommates: massive amounts of chickens, roosters, goats, dogs, and spiders all of which try to enter our room and make noise all night. our food: rice, pb&j, noodles, eggs, and oatmeal. our shock:priceless. our first days were hot, stinky, and overwhelming. its safe to say fear,...

The girl from “White Mountain”

We arrived to the carepoint in Ntabamhloshana about an hour early after and hour and a half walk we decided to sit and wait. Today was our first day at this particular place where they feed children who have no food but it was a Saturday so we didn’t know who would come.  They usually are only open monday-friday.  So I sat down on the dirt and saw three little sisters walking up and all of them have really short hair so you never know if its a boy or a girl.  We sat and talked with them but then decided to play some games.  After about an hour of games- which...

Living in Timbutini!

So exciting to be here in Manzini, Swaziland.  We are living in Timbutini in a comforitable circular hut.  For the past 8 days our team have been walking to care points, one is down the road and the other is about an hour away.  At the care points we play with the kids, hold them, sing to them; the kids are beautiful.  They are full of smiles and joy.  The Gogo’s (grandmothers) cook for the children that come, and sometimes (we don’t know who or how often) but it may be there only meal for the day.  One thing that I thought about a lot was the WATER...
