Thabani

Our second week in Swaziland has flown by.   This week has been full of praying and asking God what we are supposed to do in Swaziland.  On Monday we spent the day on a game reserve.  We spent the first part of the day driving around looking for animals and the second part of the day we spent in prayer and quiet time with God.  On Tuesday we split up and went to care points to play with kids and help the Gogos feed the kids. The care point that my group went to is the timbutini care point which is also our church and it is just down the road from our...

Finding Nemo

You would be surprised what people do when there are no TVs around. In the case of my team, we tend to enjoy naming the wildlife here on the homestead. The first few days here I decided to begin naming the goats. The first goat that I named was a baby that was white with black spots on his eyes and a black patch on his back. His is Nemo. I thought that naming a baby goat was a good idea because he would be less likely to end up on the menu before the end of the trip. Although I named many goats, Nemo is certainly my favorite. That is why when he didn’t come home a few nights ago I was...

Lovely Notando

I’ve been around family and loved ones all my life. The thought never occurred to me of no one ever being there. If I ever needed anyone they were always by me. I am so thankful that God has blessed me with the friends and family that I have now.                 I start with the semi-sappy intro because this week I went to the children’s ward at the Manzini hospital. Let me first go...

“He knows her name”

2/16 We went to the hospital today which is what I’ll typically be doing on Tuesday (and Friday) mornings. The hospital is nothing like what we are used to in America. They are separated into three different wards: men’s, women’s and children’s. The wards have different sections that have around 8 beds per section. There is no privacy and they only have single rooms for patients with TB. People are just out in the open for everyone to see. It’s very hot in there, too, which makes most patients wear little to no clothes at all in order to stay cool. Many...

Heart beats stronger.

“I think that we’ve got what it takes to get this heart to start beating again.” I’m not sure how many times I will say on this trip how in awe I am that God called me to Africa and I’m finally here. At times I don’t feel as though I’m even really in Swaziland although my senses drastically tell me otherwise. My eyes see mountains everywhere. Poverty everywhere. Bugs everywhere. I smell everything from flowers to cows. I hear everything from my team laughing to cries of the people.   Monday we had the opportunity to go to the...

Hello there. How ya doin? I’ve got all these thoughts just floating through my brain.

Whoever said that God cares more about your character than your comfort must have visited Swaziland. Although Swaziland continues to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited, it definitely is not one of the most comfortable places I have ever been. Please keep in mind that before this trip I had sworn off the idea of camping, and public bathrooms were always out of the question. Let me just paint you a picture of what daily life looks like for us here. We have no air conditioning, we sleep in a hut, we take our showers in a bucket, use...
