Why did the chicken cross the road?

When I arrived in Swaziland over 3 weeks ago, I knew that this was a much different place than America.  I could tell by the dirt roads and the underdeveloped areas, and our homestead, that doesn’t have running water.  But it wasn’t until we went for a walk that I realized that this place was further than I ever could imagine.  Well, I guess I imagined it as a kid telling jokes.  I saw a chicken crossing the road. When I first saw it, I could not stop laughing.  By the way, the answer to the old joke is really, to get to the other side.  Livestock...

3 quotes 2 stories… 1 kiss

Hello Hello everybody,     So about the kiss… One day this past week we we were walking to the Timbutini care point down the road when we ran into a familiar face. As we were walking, Maxwell the 27 year old town drunk, popped out from the side of the road. Needless to say, he was in his usual state. He was also starting his his usual conversation. ‘I love you my sister’,  ‘I want to kiss my sister’. He went for poor Melissa first. I think he has the hotts for her dreads.     I got back him about halfway through him...

I just met a Superbowl Champion!

The Super Bowl.  Saints 31-Colts 17.  One of the most televised events of the year.  I missed it for the second year in a row.  Honestly I couldn’t care less.  I have never been in to spectating sports much.  So it was a bit ironic when 3 huge NFL football players rolled up to the church/carepoint next where I am staying.  One was Anthony Hargrove from the New Orleans Saints this year’s Super Bowl champions.  It had been only a week ago that he was in all his glory.  Soaking in an accomplished life long dream at being the best in the...

A Blessing in Disguise

I am approaching week four of life in Africa. Things have obviously not been perfect. I never thought a good morning would be measured by how many flies are on me when I wake up. Or that walking to the church would consist of avoiding cow patties every other step. Nevertheless, these things happen every day and are constant reminders that this is...

Thabani

Our second week in Swaziland has flown by.   This week has been full of praying and asking God what we are supposed to do in Swaziland.  On Monday we spent the day on a game reserve.  We spent the first part of the day driving around looking for animals and the second part of the day we spent in prayer and quiet time with God.  On Tuesday we split up and went to care points to play with kids and help the Gogos feed the kids. The care point that my group went to is the timbutini care point which is also our church and it is just down the road from our...

Heart beats stronger.

“I think that we’ve got what it takes to get this heart to start beating again.” I’m not sure how many times I will say on this trip how in awe I am that God called me to Africa and I’m finally here. At times I don’t feel as though I’m even really in Swaziland although my senses drastically tell me otherwise. My eyes see mountains everywhere. Poverty everywhere. Bugs everywhere. I smell everything from flowers to cows. I hear everything from my team laughing to cries of the people.   Monday we had the opportunity to go to the...
