I have tick bite fever….

Philisiwe Mhlanga is a mother of two, her husband died in 2003. She’s been a patient at the HOPE house for exactly a year. Every Monday and Friday, Ryan and I visit her, and every single time he brings her a flower.  Because of the injections she receives, one of the side affects is difficulty hearing.  We still spend time reading the Bible and praying for her every single time anyways. This past Friday, Ryan, Behki and I went to spend the afternoon with her. She told us that she was supposed to be released to go back home back in February, but TB has destroyed her lungs...

I love Ryan?

“Those who do not weep, do not see.” -Les Miserables            There are some things in Swaziland I don’t think I will ever get used to seeing. A few weeks ago a few of us on our team went for a walk. Across from the general store is a saloon/salon (tell me how that works…). As we were walking up to the general store we saw a group of men who were obviously drunk and were making a scene. As we were standing there looking at the men outside of the saloon, out walks Thaban. Keep in mind that Thaban is five years old and...

Into the unknown

Last week Tuesday night we had a special night of worship and prayer. It started at 10 pm and ended around 4 am. We prayed over our homestead and each other and our ministries here in Swaziland. It was a night full of spiritual revival and growth. One of the things that we talked about is our authority on earth that God gives us (Mark 16:15-18). Neil was telling us that he felt that God was calling him to talk about it and it was perfect timing. Over the next few days that is exactly what we were facing. Wednesdays are our ask the Lord days. This...

Philile & Hawida: Take Two!!!

I’ve been going to the hospital every Tuesday and Thursday still. 🙂 Every time I quickly rush to the same corner of the children’s ward to see Philile and Hawida. Philile will give me a squench (squeeze, yes) that ignites my heart for hers. Every time. I have been so blessed in getting to know Philile. Continually I find drastic differences between the life of a 20 year old in Swaziland and in America. When I try to put myself in her shoes, even my imagination comes up short. Philile tells me that I’m usually the only one who visits her, but she’s told her...

Truths of the Jumbo

This week I decided to post a more lighthearted blog. Reader’s discretion is advised for those who may be eating now or plan to do so soon. ***                 Jumbo is not a noun that we are familiar with in America but here in Africa it refers to our toilets, (if they qualify as “toilets”.) Truth be told, we are not quite sure what they are. Definitely not a restroom, bathroom, porta-potie, or even rest stop for that matter. Yet, they are the place that we do our “business” and...

what’s up what’s up

Hey everybody, So last time I talked about how I was loving talking in front of all the kids on Thursdays. Well this week is a little bit of a different story. On Mondays and Thursdays I go to a primary school in Manzini. It is one of the nicest private schools in all of Swazi. Walking into that school often feels like walking into a different world. The children in this school come from well of families. One day they will be the leaders of Swaziland. It’s kind of funny when I sit and think about it. The kids in this school learn 4 languages, take ballroom class, and many speak...
