A New Normal

I live in a hut in Africa, with a thatched roof and all it’s glory. I played with preschool children today but didn’t have a conversation with them because we don’t speak the same language. I came home to a cow being butchered on the ground by our outdoor showers, the cow died while in child birth. The smell of the butchered dead cow is ripe and still lingering in the evening air. I cleaned the outhouse today with bleach water and a broom hoping to eliminate some of the stench, but we all know it won’t be long until the heat of the day brings back the ripe smell of poop. I...

What up, Swazi

Well, this blog will probably be really short because my internet time runs out in 9 minutes and 22 seconds.       Swaziland is beautiful!!! I can’t believe I’m finally in Africa. I feel like I haven’t gotten to fully enjoy it yet, though, because I’m trying to get over a gross cold (much thanks to the freezing, germ-filled airplane).  But I’m getting better! So don’t worry, Mom.      During the next 3 weeks in Manzini, we have several opportunities for missions....

Simplicity

Honey, we’re home. After driving to the Atlanta airport, waiting for 6 hours, flying for 17 hours, driving for 1 hour, sleeping in Johannesburg for 4 hours, driving for 6 hours, going through 2 border checks, going grocery shopping, converting money, and driving another hour, we have made it to the homestead.Swazi isn’t like any stereotypical description of Africa, it’s mountainous, green, full of smiles, old dogs, chickens, blossoms, tin outhouses, and laughter. It’s everything I could ever want in a home. My team and I share a big hut with 7 sets of bunk beds,...

Speaking Life!

It seems like a whirlwind but we made it to Swaziland after long travel, months of preparation, prayers and some anxiety.  We are still in that stage where honestly anything can happen and that’s exciting.    Throughout the past few trips I have led I have learned so much about the power that I have, specifically about the power I have to speak life into things.  I have the ability to see things as they are and except them and speak about them as they are.  Or I have the authority to see things through God’s eyes and speak life into things.  Throughout so...

As I wait You make me STRONG!

This past week has been so long but short at the same time. At training camp I was so anxious to just be in Swazi already but God did so much in my heart and life while I was there that I am glad we were able to be there. I never thought that I would feel this way about God or experience Him in such an intimate way. The plane ride was funny in many ways especially sitting next to Dauna and the crazy lady but it went much faster than I anticipated. When we got off the plane and touched the ground of South Africa it was nothing as I had expected. We stayed in an amazing hotel met out contact...
