warrior

“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”     This summer someone gave you a word and said that God was calling me to be a warrior.  I did not believe her when she told me this, so God put that on another persons heart to tell me that God was choosing me to be a warrior.    Our group did a two day fast, which was difficult, but rewarding.  During our fast I asked God if he was really preparing me to be a warrior and what the meant. ...

Smiles

I want to tell you a little about the children of Swaziland that we have met!  There is so much joy in these children’s smiles and laughter.  One little boy I met found a toothbrush outside and began brushing my hair with it, singing to me while he brushed.  ((I hope it was sanitary 🙂 ))  When we play Frisbee, or blow bubbles, or just hold the children they light up with laughter and excitement, and love when you compliment their English, or their voices.  They loved when I took their picture, or let the girls play with my...

You’re Home

We went to our first care point this past week, which has flown bye so fast, and as we came up to the building there was this man with a huge smile. He seemed at first overwhelmed by all of the white people, but soon came to realize that we were just there to build a relationship with him. After about 15 minutes of being there, the man had shown us more Michael Jackson dances and songs than I have seen on TV. When he was done showing us, I went up to him to compliment how well he spoke English and he just stared at me for about 30 seconds without saying anything. Eventually he spoke,...

A Face I’ll Never Forget

On Monday, we spent the morning playing with children at the Timbutini care point. I was sitting with this 4 year old little girl who was counting to 100 when I saw this precious boy walk by. He couldn’t have been any older than 5, but he captured my heart instantly. I waved to him and he came and sat down beside me.      He was so shy when I tried to talk to him. His hand was wrapped up, as if he had broken it, but he wouldn’t talk about it when I asked him. Since he wouldn’t talk, I decided to make him laugh. And what’s the...

The Heart of Our Father

I saw God’s heart yesterday through the girls washing the children’s feet. There were easily 50 children from the age of 1 to 16 who lined up in anticipation to have their feet washed by one of the girls. Some laughed and looked on unsure what to think about the Americans washing their feet. This was our third and last day at this particular care point. The children seemed so different now then our first day when they had just stared up at us with their big brown eye that looked full of pain and sadness, not sure what to think of us. We had been told that since this care point was...

Angels Among Us

I spent Tuesday afternoon and this morning at the Hope House, a home for the dying in Manzini. Tuesday, I spent hours holding the hand of an ancient, ailing Gogo (grandmother) named Ana. Her skin was soft and oily, wrinkles covered her face that not even a macro lens could lend justice to. She sat out facing the sun, squinting her eyes in the wind in her silk, polka dotted night gown. She wears a Van Gogh-esque sunflower head wrap to cover her grey curls, and hot pink crocs to cover her gnarled and curving toes. Her eyes are yellowed with cloudy blue and brown pupils. She is the picture of...
