:)

Simplicity.  A common theme for this trip.  On our short debrief in South Africa we had the privilege to stay at the Betor house which was absolutely beautiful and relaxing!  While we were there we had great internet connection and lots of movies, and I realized how often I was getting online to email, facebook, and and was continually doing some activity with the media.  It hit me that I had not spent any quiet time with God for awhile. On the homestead it was so much easier for me to focus on God because I was not distracted by the world.    I...

a new adventure

Today is our last day in Manzini which means that our trip is half done. My thoughts on that are mixed but overall it has been a really good month. We have learned new things about God, each other, and ourselves through our experiences up to this point. Looking back on these things makes me really excited for what God has planned for us in this next month although sometimes I do wish I could be in my comfortable bed, have a real shower, and not have to use a long drop everyday. Africa is definately beautiful but not very comfortable which is something to get used to! Keep praying that God...

Healer set me FREE!

“Over the mountains and the sea Your river runs with love for me And I will open up my heart And let the healer set me free I’m happy to be in the truth And I will daily lift my hands For I will always sing Of when your love came down“ God has been trying to heal me for a while now. At home I am the protector of my friends and family, so I feel like I have to be strong for them. Coming to Africa I felt like I would take on the same role as a protector and be strong for everyone else so that they could have someone to feel like they could count on. God definitely had...

His banner over me is LOVE

As I was emailing my mom and telling her about something awesome the Lord has been doing in my life, I realized that I should blog about it too! Good idea, yeah? At the beginning of this trip, I prayed this lyric for my life and journey in Africa: “Heal my heart and make it clean.Open up my eyes to the things unseen.Show me how to LOVE like You have loved me.Break my heart for what breaks Yours.Everything I am for Your Kingdom‘s cause.” -“Hosanna”, Hillsong United Every day, I’m realizing how the Lord is answering this prayer! He’s healing my heart...

Promised Land

About two weeks ago, Dennis (one of the church pastors), spoke on Sunday about getting to the Promised Land. A typical church service lasts around a little over two hours and it is usually 90 degrees with no sort of ventilation. Along with the sweat and heat from everybody else sitting next to me, I almost always have a child on my lap….so paying attention to the pastor’s sermon is kind of a struggle.    This Sunday though, as I sit with a beautiful Swazi kid on my lap and am attempting to fan myself, I’m also distracted by life at home in the states. I’m...

Sometimes God has Other Plans

Yesterday we left our homestead at 8:00 am to go into town to help with a retreat for the women who feed the children at the care points, the day before we had been there and helped to decorate and set up. We had watched as 4 very full vans unloaded with African woman of all ages some with small children. All of us were excited to be able to go back and help out leading them in games and other activities.  However, the van we have been traveling in had some trouble starting and on our way out of the area we live in it just stopped running. Being too far to walk back to the house we...
