Team Swazi!!

These first few days at training camp have been some of the longest and most interesting days of my life. The first night in Atlanta, Georgia, we arrived at the homeless shelter that we would be staying for the night. Our first assignment was to go out on to the streets of Atlanta and talk to people and ask them their story. So there we were in Atlanta talking to these people on the streets till 1 in the morning. It was quite the experience and nothing that we were expecting to do on our first day. During the rest of our training camp we were well prepared for our trip with...

The beginning :)

Coming to Atlanta, Georgia for training camp I knew close to nothing about what I was getting myself into. From this, what it seems, everlasting training camp experience, I have learned a lot of things that I’ll carry with me throughout my walk of life. I am so thankful for what I have learned and overcome, and cannot express in words how excited I am to be a part of such a perfectly selected group to go out and be able to do amazing things in what is going to be such an amazing place. Luke 18:29

The Journey Finally Begins

Wow. I can’t believe our adventure is finally here! It’s been a blast getting to know everyone and experiencing God in a whole new way at training camp at the AIM Base. This journey began when everyone arrived at the airport and we grabbed and lugged all of our luggage to the Marta train and took that for a few blocks until we got to our stop. We lugged our huge suitcases up to the Safehouse, a homeless shelter in Atlanta, while everyone was staring at us wondering why we were carrying all these bags. While there, we ate dinner and then later that night went out and shared our...

Training in Surrender

These past four days of training camp have impacted me in such a huge way. I really had no idea what to expect. It’s been really hard for me because I’ve been homesick. I didn’t really think about that affecting me during training camp. But I was really struggling with wanting to be two places at once. Yesterday morning, we did this activity that was called a Surrender Hike. We each had a log an we wrote things on it with a marker. We were supposed to write things that we still needed to surrender to God and not take with us on our trip. I felt like I needed to let go of...

Wahoo, HERE at training camp!

The super incredible amazing adventure has begun!  After all teams arrived at the Atlanta airport Friday, we were surprised with an envelope that gave us instructions to find our way to The Safehouse.  We took the Marta (subway) to Peachtree Street.  From there, we asked someone on the street for directions and then were on our way carrying our HEAVY weight of equipment that will last us for for the next three in a half months.  Let me just say:  it was heavy and a great hike to our destination.  At The Safehouse we were told that the rest of the night we were going to spend on the...

Traing Camp: It’s Not What You Think

After everyone arrvied in Atlanta, Kyla (in charge of ‘super fun’) gave us each of our leaders a ‘Super Fun Envelope #1’ in it was instructions and enough money for us to take the Marta. The instructions were to take the Marta and go to the Safehouse.    What it didn’t say was the four city blocks we would have to walk carrying our 75lbs of luggage. In the sweltering heat. When we arrrived the staff gleefully asked us if we were regretting how much we brought.    After a lovely sack lunch/dinner, We had a small training sesssion...
