Living in Timbutini!

So exciting to be here in Manzini, Swaziland.  We are living in Timbutini in a comforitable circular hut.  For the past 8 days our team have been walking to care points, one is down the road and the other is about an hour away.  At the care points we play with the kids, hold them, sing to them; the kids are beautiful.  They are full of smiles and joy.  The Gogo’s (grandmothers) cook for the children that come, and sometimes (we don’t know who or how often) but it may be there only meal for the day.  One thing that I thought about a lot was the WATER...

Love’s not easy but it’s worth it.

Giving up comfort and security to follow God to Swaziland wasn’t easy. In fact, it was one of the hardest thing’s I’ve ever done.    Our house is a hut. Out toilets are holes in the ground in an open metal stall. Our shower is a bucket. Our power goes out randomly. The chickens and dogs poop on our doorstep. We don’t have running water. We rarely have transportation. But what we do have here, is Jesus Christ. He’s still the same. What we do have, is love.      1 John 4:11  Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought...

No one like Him..

“There’s no one, there’s no one like Jesus”is what I sang in Siswati to my new friend Tabani as we sat on a dirt pile in the sun, half way digging a hole, half way falling asleep. Wiping drool from his mouth to keep him clean. Holding him like we’ve know each other forever. Just singing and swaying. No other words, in our own little world. As I was singing, I could feel the peace of God surrounding us, flowing through us. “There’s no one, there’s no one like Jesus.” I know God is always with me but I never realized how real He was till...

Team Swazi :)

This first week in Swaziland hase been a really big challenge. Adjusting to the new culture and getting to know the people in the small town of Timboutini has been so amazing. Going to the care points almost every day and getting to spend time with the kids there has already taught me so much in as little a one week. I think that If Iwere to go home right now, I would come home a completely different person then when i came here a week ago. Learning the culture and the language has not been easy at all. I’ts actually very tiring. I have never slept so much in my life! But its all...

The girl from “White Mountain”

We arrived to the carepoint in Ntabamhloshana about an hour early after and hour and a half walk we decided to sit and wait. Today was our first day at this particular place where they feed children who have no food but it was a Saturday so we didn’t know who would come.  They usually are only open monday-friday.  So I sat down on the dirt and saw three little sisters walking up and all of them have really short hair so you never know if its a boy or a girl.  We sat and talked with them but then decided to play some games.  After about an hour of games- which...

Welcome to Swazi

Hello!   We’ve all made it safely to Manzini and are settling in rather well. After my cooking mishap (no one has dared to make rice since then) and the monster spider (P.S. we didn’t actually get it out of the bathroom, it’s still dead on the floor, it’s just hidden. J) in our bathroom, we are managing quite well. J   As I’ve slowly come to know my girls better over this past week and a half, I am becoming more and more convinced of God’s perfect placement of them on our team. Although we are all different and maybe not entirely sure what we are doing here in Africa...
