The girl from “White Mountain”

We arrived to the carepoint in Ntabamhloshana about an hour early after and hour and a half walk we decided to sit and wait. Today was our first day at this particular place where they feed children who have no food but it was a Saturday so we didn’t know who would come.  They usually are only open monday-friday.  So I sat down on the dirt and saw three little sisters walking up and all of them have really short hair so you never know if its a boy or a girl.  We sat and talked with them but then decided to play some games.  After about an hour of games- which...

No one like Him..

“There’s no one, there’s no one like Jesus”is what I sang in Siswati to my new friend Tabani as we sat on a dirt pile in the sun, half way digging a hole, half way falling asleep. Wiping drool from his mouth to keep him clean. Holding him like we’ve know each other forever. Just singing and swaying. No other words, in our own little world. As I was singing, I could feel the peace of God surrounding us, flowing through us. “There’s no one, there’s no one like Jesus.” I know God is always with me but I never realized how real He was till...

Here I am

If you would have shown me where we would be staying. Or told me that our lovely outhouses were towards the road and have no doors, I would’ve thought long and hard about coming.  At home I learned we would be having bucket showers. I tried to figure out what a bucket shower is.  I asked my family. Some thought it would be a bucket with a hose. Some thought a bucket over top with a shower head. Nope. A bucket shower is just what it sounds like, a bucket of water.  But by dirty day four I could not have been happier for that bucket shower!  So, the firt little...

Are we there yet?

I know for many on our team it has been a long journey to get to this point, our adventure started weeks even months ago as they were accepted and started support raising and figuring out what to pack. It took on a whole new meaning and became more realy as we met our team in person for the first itme at training camp and began to make memories together and connect with our new family but the thought of Swaziland was always in our mind as we counted down the days until our feet would touch the African soul.   If we were little kids we would have driven our parents crazy by now with the...

I need Africa.

I need Africa more than Africa needs me. There are a lot of stories I could tell you and a lot of testimonies I could give you about being back in Swaziland but there is one lesson I have learned that has been made more clear to me since arriving last week and I would like to share it with you. This is the second time I have been to Swaziland, I LOVE this country, and I can honestly say that God has used bringing me here very strongly in my life to change and grow me. When I initially came to Africa in 2008-2009 I came to help, to serve, which I did but I have come to realize that God...

Welcome to Swazi

Hello!   We’ve all made it safely to Manzini and are settling in rather well. After my cooking mishap (no one has dared to make rice since then) and the monster spider (P.S. we didn’t actually get it out of the bathroom, it’s still dead on the floor, it’s just hidden. J) in our bathroom, we are managing quite well. J   As I’ve slowly come to know my girls better over this past week and a half, I am becoming more and more convinced of God’s perfect placement of them on our team. Although we are all different and maybe not entirely sure what we are doing here in Africa...
