Team Swazi!!

I am still absolutely loving Africa! Im having so much fun living in a hut with 14 other girls, taking bucket showers, hand washing all my clothes, being swarmed by dozens of kids and being woken up at 5 am by heards of cows! Well maybe not that last one, but everything else I really am liking and learning a lot from .J  The other day, my friend Jill and I went to the Mangwananei care point in Manzini. Before we even got there kids came running down the street as fast as they could and just jumped on us! We were seriously carrying about three kids at once, and even then more kids were...

Oh, How He Loves

I hear this song so often, but I rarely stop to think about it: how does Jesus really love me? I heard it put last week that “the chief way that Jesus loves us is in our weakness, our immaturity, our inability” and I can add my naïveté, my outright failure, my stubbornness, the list really goes on and on. His love means the most to me when I know that I really don’t deserve it, and those are the opportunities that He has to really show the depth of His love for us.   How then do I take John 13:34, when Jesus says, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love...

Oh glory!

But you, O God my Lord, deal on my behalf for your name’s sake, because your steadfast love is good, deliver me! -Psalm 109:21. In this blog I just wanted to share something that I have been learning more solidly while here in Swaziland. It has everything to do with God’s strength and faith and His glory. On Monday as our team was walking home from ministry I began to pray and asked God to reveal lessons He was teaching me and things He was doing in me since coming to Swaziland. So often I find it easy to overlook the things that the Lord is doing in and for me so I have to...

LOVE your Neighbor as Yourself!

God has been teaching me a lot about love the past couple weeks.  I find myself having a negative attitude about some situations or against some people who we have met.  I know this is not what I am supposed to be doing/thinking/acting…especially here on a mission’s trip.  But not at home either. I know God wants and commands me to love others unconditionally just as he loves us. I also have been thinking a lot about what I say and how I say it.  This is something that is hard for me but I woke up one day and God told me to try it.  He had been putting it on my...

Adventure of a Lifetime

Hiking on a mountain in Africa, wildlife all around, African drums in the distance, and watching a storm blow in, all at the same time? Yeah, that’s what my day consisted of on Saturday. How many people can say that?? My team had the privilege of experiencing this incredible opportunity on our day off when we decided to go check out Execution Rock. On the mountain we saw zebras, wildebeests, warthogs, antelope, a lemur, a crocodile, and some hippos! It was pretty legit. Probably one of the best days ever.   Not only did I get to go on this adventure, but I got to share the experience...
