The Adventure Begins!!

Hello from Swaziland! Today is our third day here in Swaziland and already we have been learning and experiencing so much! Yesterday was our first day of ministry and we went to the village carepoint at the church down the room from our homestead we are staying at. the carepoint is a place for kids to come for a meal and a safe place to play for a couple hours before they go back to their homes. I made a little buddy their Matahwe who followed me around the whole time i was there. Everyone in Swazi is so friendly and constantly have smiles on their faces and wave every time we walk by. We...

Heaven on Earth (Training Camp)

Meeting 21 beautifully-godly girls has been the highlight of my life. We have only known each other for a week and I feel as though I was finally reunited with my sisters. Training camp was an incredible experience. I was greatly challenged and was always nervously awaiting the next surprise. God broke chains of fear, doubt, comparison, loneliness, and comfort. I could go on for years telling you the amazing work God has done in me in 4 days. During those days, I was constantly in communion with God, surrendering my fears literally every moment of the day. I finally heard the voice of...

Surprise African Sunsets, Roosters, and Smiling Go-Go’s

Welcome to AFRICA. I can successfully say that after a 16 hour plane ride to south africa and a 5 hour van ride across the border to the Kingdom of Swaziland, we are finally here! This blog post is going to consist mainly of the experience we’ve seen so far since it’s only been about 2 full days. The village we are staying at is called Timbutini and it is quintessential Africa. Women walk on the side of the road with baskets on their heads and babies on their backs, kids laughing as they pump water from the well as they walk home from school in their school uniforms. We were...

The Simple Life

It is crazy how material driven our culture is in America.  I think about all my possessions and the things that I own.  Then I look around me and I am taken back.  We went as a team today to a cultural debrief with an AIM missionary based here in Swaziland and our translators.  They were talking about watching our possessions and keeping our things safe.  That’s when they stated “people here know that white people have things”.  It hit me like a ton of bricks.  American’s are so materialistic that we are know by other countries and...

Beauty

I know that everyone’s posts have been all about what we have been doing, but I really wanted to tell of something that has stood out to me. So, read the rest of the  blogs for details of our trip! What has stood out for me has been the beauty. I haven’t quite been able to get over how beautiful it is here in Swaziland. Mainly the beauty in the people. We just got back to the homestead from doing a prayer walk around the area. As a complete answered prayer, we came across an elderly lady struggling to push her wheelbarrow of water up a hill. So we asked, through the...

And So… It Begins!!

So we have officially arrived in Swaziland!! Well actually we got here two days ago and just now got a day off… but it sounded better to start my blog off that way! We got lucky and only have a 14-15 hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa! I didn’t sleep on the plane at all… very bad idea! We stayed the night there and then woke up for a 5 hour-ish ride to Timbutini, Swaziland. It has been amazing! We live in a house with a straw roof (always been a dream of mine to experience!). But, it has also been a huge culture shock. There is no running water, and bucket showers...
