Read and be thankful ;)

Psalm 86. Besides posting the whole Bible this is what you need to read! The people here love scripture ANY scripture. It is truly amazing how encouraged and thankful they get when you read scripture to them. This week God is changing my heart more and more towards scripture and teaching me how to use it!! I will stop writing now and let God’s love letter speak for itself. Kisses from SWAZILAND!!Megan Kittilstad

The Martha Story

Yesturday I was reminded of a childhood memory from when I was younger.  There was an older women named Martha Barto.  She was a women of God and she had a passion for the children of our Church (Southbrook Christian Church).  She was also known as the gum lady.  I would go up to her and kiss her cheek and she stated “I love you and Jesus loves you”.  At the time I was focused on the piece of gum I received but thinking back I was always reminded of the love Jesus has for me.  Then yesturday I was holding a little girl, my heart broke for her. ...

Truly in Love

This week can’t be described by any other word but… intense. I’m learning so much about the Swazi culture and let me tell you, thing here are so different. Although I haven’t experienced a huge culture shock here, I am just amazed at the simplicity of life on this side of the globe. One major difference is time. The concept of time here is basically non-existent. The rooster crow all stinkin’ day long and our bus driver showed up 2 hours late and thought nothing was wrong with that! But hey, this is Africa. So with all this free time I’ve had A LOT of...

Home.

Being dropped off in the middle of no-where Africa makes you feel how very far away from home you actually are.  You can feel the distance.  You can feel the gap that is the Atlantic Ocean.  This land is barren, desolate, brown. It is not my home. How could it be? My home doesn’t involve taking bucket “showers.â€  It doesn’t involve braving fierce winds just to use the bathroom.  My home doesn’t have the electricity shut off during the day or a broken glass pain in your room which makes the cold nights even colder.  It doesn’t offer the threat of...

“New York!”

To the Swazis, I am known as “New York” or Mrs. Hunter, as if I’m already married (haha!). At church on Sunday our group introduced ourselves, saying our name and what state we are from. Saying “New York” opened up some very humorous conversations. I was asked if I knew Alicia Keys, Beyonce, and Rihanna personally and then was serenaded by my new friends with “Single Ladies” by Beyonce. The people here are so incredibly sweet and gracious. I love not having to worry about what time it is or where we’re going next, because no one knows and...

Tipeala- The Boy Who Won My Heart

Yesterday at the care point I was talking to the GoGo’s (the grandmothers) cooking the kid’s against hunger meal for the children when a mother walked up with her baby girl and her son.  The boy was shy, his eye’s where yellow, his hair not combed and his clothes were torn.  He was about 4 years old.  I started to talk to him and play peek a boo.  My heart began to sink as he reach his two arms slowly towards me as he just wanted to be loved.  I picked him up and held him close. I began to sing over him and tell him I loved him.  I told him...
