Learning to Love

“Each person is on this earth for one reason: to love God and people”. These are the words of wisdom Gogo Aliyah shared with us as we sat on the front porch of her two-roomed home earlier this week. They sounded very similar to Jesus` answer when asked what the greatest commandment is. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:36-39). Coming to Swaziland my mind was filled with big dreams and ideas of what we would spend our time...

“daddy’s got you”

“Daddys got you”. Three words that inspired me to have courage. To trust that however scarry the jump, my daddy was waiting at the other end. His strong arms waiting to catch me. Giving me the faith to take the leap into the unknown waters. “Daddys got you”. The words that gave me the bravery to climb up onto my bike, now without training wheels. My daddy was so patient, following behind me, for what must have been hours. His neck tie across my chest, and under my arms. He stayed with me, promising not to let go until I was ready. He never did break that promise....

Love is

We were able to visit a wonderful lady named Gogo Flora last week. She lives a short walk from the team house, so we were surprised when she told us that her asthma was so bad that she couldn’t make the five minute walk to church every week. We were heartbroken to hear this. How many of us take our weekly worship for granted? Love is hurting for those who hurt.      Tanner just was not okay with this, and he saw there was something that could be done. He was able to buy her a hymn book for about ten dollars. We visited her again as soon as we could...

The skies display His craftsmanship

One of my favorite questions to ask people is ‘How/where do you see/feel God with most clarity?’ All of the different answers I get are such a beautiful picture of the personal and unique relationship that the Father has with each of His children. We are all knitted and sewn perfectly by Him in His image, but in completely different ways to serve Him. Personally my favorite is in and through nature. It blows my mind every time I look out the door and see the huge mountains that the Creator of the universe has made. And don’t even get me started on the stars –...

Wrapped in Chains

Freedom…a word I took pretty lightly in my faith. I’ve always known Christ has set us free from our sins, but I never understood the true meaning of freedom. These past few years I was really frustrated with why I couldn’t let God fully take control over my life.  After I shared my testimony with the team, a few of my teammates told me they feel like I still have chains holding me back. That I’m letting sin from my past really control me. That really struck a cord and I began praying that The Lord would break those chains, but I wasn’t sure how to step...

Wisdom of a 13 yr old

‘Our Father’ – this term can stir up a multitude of emotion all around the world. Good, bad, happy or sad. Too often our idea of God as our Father is predetermined by our view of our earthly father, but in reality no matter how great our daddys may be, he doesn’t even compare to the perfect King. One of my favorite parts about going to care points and seeing the kids is hearing them each time pray The Lord’s Prayer. The more I hear them say it, English or Siswati, the meaning and power of it comes more and more to life. “Give us this day our daily...
