God Chose Me

A few days ago, I left the only home I’ve ever known to go on the adventure of a lifetime. With a past history of anxiety, this was the biggest step I’d ever taken out of my comfort zone and to be honest, in my life. I wasn’t sure what to expect in many areas ( I’m still not too sure for a lot of things) and I was so nervous but excited to do something so big. As I boarded my plane from Houston to Georgia for training camp and to meet my team, I was questioning how God could really use me on such an big trip with so many people. As we ascended, we passed through...

‘Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your...

Little Hands, Tiny Voices, Big Prayers

Last Thursday, like every other Thursday morning, we visited Eskhaleni Carepoint. This beatutiful morning was different though. It was our last visit, our last Thursday. This week we read the story of Jesus Ascention into Heaven and sang My God is so...

El Fin

It’s a hard thing- to come to the end of a season that has been huge in your life.  If I can try to wrap up my biggest lesson from this experience into one idea, it’s that I love love. It’s been the little things I loved. Even though the children here know little to no English, we’ve made friends. They know we are friends because we have loved them well. When they skin their knee they come to their malongos. When they just want a band-aid they find a tiny scratch and come to us too. When they fall on the playground we dry their big fat tears and wipe their...

In Good Hands

The 20 or so teenage guys who you play soccer with every afternoon. They gave you a new name and accepted you even though your skin was white and you weren’t as good at soccer. How do you say goodbye to them?      The great grandmother who can’t walk a kilometer to the church because of her asthma. Your teammate bought her a hymnal so she could worship at home and she is forever thankful for it. How do you say goodbye to her?      The five year old who’s English is restricted to colors, numbers, and a few animals. He...
