But you, O God my Lord, deal on my behalf for your name’s
sake, because your steadfast love is good, deliver me!
-Psalm 109:21.
In this blog I just wanted to share something that I have
been learning more solidly while here in Swaziland. It has everything to do
with God’s strength and faith and His glory.
On Monday as our team was walking home from ministry I began
to pray and asked God to reveal lessons He was teaching me and things He was
doing in me since coming to Swaziland. So often I find it easy to overlook the
things that the Lord is doing in and for me so I have to ask to see them. While
praying and thinking God told me to read Psalm 29:11. “May the Lord give
strength to his people!”
As I read this I felt so happy because one thing God is
definitely been doing in me is giving me strength. I don’t necessarily mean
physical strength or strength to help me get through each day, not that He
doesn’t supply that fully, but what I mean is that He is giving me strength in
my faith. It feels like God is reaching down to the root of who I am in Him
deep to the core of my being and strengthening me there.
I feel like I stand up straighter spiritually.
I think that the biggest way that God is doing this is
calling me and bringing me into a place where I am unquestioning about the fact
that God does everything for His glory.
In Psalm 109:21 it says, “But you, O God my Lord, deal on my behalf for
your name’s sake…” Basically this is saying Lord you do things for me, in me,
through me, around me for your name to be proclaimed and for your name to be
glorified.
It is such a beautiful principle and I believe the answer to
so many struggles so many people have with God. I think a lot of the struggle
lies in the fact that it requires faith to believe this and faith is hard to
walk in. I have been doing a daily Bible study with a girl on my team and so
often we get to discussing things about life that seem unfair or hard to
understand and the questions come up, why would God allow that to happen to
this person? Why wouldn’t God step in fix that before it turned into more if a
problem? Etc. Well, friend, I don’t the specific reasons to these specific
situations but what I do know is that God deals on our behalf for His glory.
Friend, you don’t need more reason than that. In everything, underlying all
other reasons, is the truth that God allowed that for His glory. You may have a
lot of questions and I am pretty sure that you may find a lot of answers I
trusting that God did it for His glory.
As a Christian, that is the answer. It is not something to
be apologetic about but it is something to find confidence and joy in. Don’t
you just love God’s glory?
I know there are a lot of thing that I am learning but this
is just one of them and I love it and just wanted to share it with you. Back on
September 19th a teammate prayed for me and said she saw a picture
of a little pillar in the middle of a windy field. It can withstand even the
toughest things and as I flipped through my journal tonight and read that I
just couldn’t help but think how cool God is. I do feel like a pillar. I may be
weak in myself but as I learn God is strengthening me and the more I learn the
more I realize that even if I didn’t want to believe in God there is no way I
could deny Him. God is so real. He exists and he works and he moves and he
speaks. God is so good.
