Traing Camp: It’s Not What You Think

After everyone arrvied in Atlanta, Kyla (in charge of ‘super fun’) gave us each of our leaders a ‘Super Fun Envelope #1’ in it was instructions and enough money for us to take the Marta. The instructions were to take the Marta and go to the Safehouse.

What it didn’t say was the four city blocks we would have to walk carrying our 75lbs of luggage. In the sweltering heat. When we arrrived the staff gleefully asked us if we were regretting how much we brought.
After a lovely sack lunch/dinner, We had a small training sesssion during which we were informed we would be going out on the streets of Atlanta. Did I mention that in Atlanta there was a festival called ‘Dragoncon’. From what I Could gather it’s a party for people really into Sci-Fi, Star Wars Etc. So people were in costumes, crazy, scary and sort of awesome.
At First we were a little scared but Jen and Robby helped us be brave. It ended up being a lot of fun.
The next morning we were told to be out in the parking at eight o’clock sharp, so that we could walk the half mile to where the busses would be picking us up. We waited a long time on the busses. When the two, yes, two for seventy of us busses arrived we loaded us and our stuff on and drove the hour and a half to the AIM base.
Let me just say, training camp was not what I expected. Porta jons, no electric cabins with bunks and coooold outdoor showers. I tried to mentally prepare myself for the cold showers but I did a bad job.
But the fun part is all the stuff we get to do together, ‘Super Fun Morning Time’, a dance off, great worship and teaching.
I think they’re are doing a great job of getting us ready for Africa.
