The First Week

Hey Everyone!

Today is the big day when I’ll be leaving training camp in Gainsville, Georgia and heading to the Atlanta airport to fly to Johanesburg! From there we have about a five hour drive to reach our new home which is a small town near the city of Manzini. I am very excited!

This week at training camp has been really great. I have loved getting to know my team better and learning about their backgrounds. It already feels as though we have known eachother for months instead of days.

We have faced many new and unexpected experiences together which has brought us even closer. The night before last we braved the literally freezing tempuratures in our lightweight sleepingbags trying to sleep in our cabins. It got down to 25 degrees in our cabin and my damp towel from the night before was frozen stiff in the morning. That is just another reason to look forward to getting to Swaziland, warm nights!

I didn’t exactly pack for warm weather. Because of that, I have literally worn the same pair of jeans and the same sweatshirt all this week. I never expected to love sleeping in my jeans as much as I do now that they are the warmest clothes I have. The last two nights we were able to bring our sleeping bags into the bag and enjoyed much warmer nights.

Overall this week at training camp has been really awesome. Some of my favorite parts have been getting to know my team and seeing how God has been encourageing and preparing me for what I’m about to do.

I look forward to sharing more with you about my experiences in Swaziland once we get there!
