“God spoke in a dream and said it was time for me to have a relationship with Him”. –These words, humbly spoken, came from sweet Go-Go Jele who shared how she had come into a relationship with Christ only a year prior.
This Go-Go lives by herself in the hills of Swaziland. With no family to care for her, she lives on her own and depends on God to provide for her everyday needs. Such a sweet voice, beautiful, blue eyes, and such a loving heart.
In the shade of her mud and stick home on a straw mat we sat.
We saw her go in her small hut to stir literally the only food she had.
We laughed when she wanted us to marry some random Swazi men.
We were challenged when we found out she has to walk down the road twice a day to fill her small jugs with water.
We felt sorrow when we heard of her fever and aches.
We were awed when we heard of how our God has healed her hurting, ill body at night in the past.
We prayed and believe the Lord will again heal and provide.
We were amazed when we learned that she could not even read a Bible, but that the Lord continues to teach her in other ways.
We were encouraged when we heard of how God told her in a dream to move to a new area
…and from that obedience, He has provided a loving and giving church family who check in and care for her.
The Lord speaks in many ways. For Go-Go it is through dreams and visions. For others it is through music, a still small voice, thoughts, scripture, others, etc. But God does speak.
Every day we speak. Every day we listen. But to what? To who?
To:
Our own voice- from the sometimes-sweet hum of our own thoughts to the mass frustration of jumbled confusion.
The Enemy’s voice- cleverly placed lies and fears that the enemy uses to turn our focus away from the Lord.
The World’s voice- Other’s way of letting us know all the things we “should” think, buy, desire, need, believe, etc.
…. And then there is God’s voice.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me” John 10:27.
To be known by God the Father. To be known and led by the one who dearly loves and who has made a way to eternal life. To be known by the one who is Truth.
That’s the voice I want to hear and believe.
How often are we able to tune down the voices we hear everyday and focus on the one who gives us voice?
What does that look like for you? I urge you, just as I have been doing, to seek out the Lord and listen for his voice.
