Learning His Voice.

On
Wednesday Myself and six other girls went with our translators to do a few
home visits. One of the GoGo’s that we visited was in her late nineties. I
could hardly believe how young she looked! when I first saw her she was carrying
a sack of corn in from the field. She was a petite woman with a cane on her
right to support her arching back. This woman was the mother of eleven
children, she has grand children, great grand children, and even great great
grand children. We only asked how many grand children she had, after about ten
minutes of counting and thinking, she finally reached the total of
twenty-seve
n!

 She even
raised some of her grand children and great grand children because their
parents had died young. while we were there we had the privilage of meeting her
great great grand daughter. It broke my heart to see this little girl, probably
only seven years old, walking into her GoGo’s homestead with tears in her eyes
and running down her cheeks because it hurt her stomach so much to run. GoGo
had no more food as of that morning until we brought her a loaf of bread. I
had an apple my bag for lunch which I gladly handed over to GoGo so she could
eat, so by the time this little girl showed up I had nothing left to share. We
prayed over GoGo and the little girl. In the quietness of my heart I asked God
to give me something that I could give to this little girl to help her not hurt
so much. We finished praying and were getting ready to leave. I gathered my bag
and grabbed my water bottle.

My
water bottle. It was still about half full and I knew the walk home was going
to be long and very hot in the heat of the day, but I didn’t care. I knew God was
telling me that water was not for me. A moment later I was unscrewing the lid
and handing what was left to the girl, she accepted it and drank like she
hadn’t had water in days. She returned the bottle with some still left, I gave
it back and let her drink the rest. I knew she needed it more than I did.

At that moment a verse
came to mind. Matthew 25:35 “For i was hungry, and you fed me. I was
thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into
your home.” Also Matthew 25:40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell oyu
the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sister,
you were doing it to me!” The walk home wasn’t as hot as I expected. And
on the way back Pastor Walter was driving past and gave Zanele a bottle of cold
Sprite, which she shared with everyone. God taught me that when we listen to
his voice he will take care of us, even if it is as simple as a cool drink. The
only reason I was hezitant to share all my water was because I didn’t want to
be hot and thirsty on the walk home, but compared to this little girl my thirst
was nothing.
