Hey everybody,
A lot has already happened in two weeks time. I need to introduce you to some of my new friends.
This week we’ll kick off with Daban a.k.a. ‘Drooler’. He is a boy at the Timbutini care point, which is the closest to our homestead. I’d say he’s around 5 years old. His two front teeth are missing, and his food never seems to make it past his face into his mouth. He always has a ring of his latest meal plastered to his cheeks and chin. The kid never stops smiling… or drooling. I had the pleasure of sitting in the back of Discipleship class with Daban in my lap. He lasted a total of 2 and a half minutes before being out cold, with mouth gaping, lying on my chest. Daban is always the first to run up to us at Timbutini, and the hardest to make stay when we’re trying to leave.
There have been a few things happen so far that have really made me realise the reality of the situation I’m in. The first happened one day in Nsoko. Part of our team went to pray for a man that was in his early twenties. He was on his death bed. It’s crazy to think that a man that age can be strong and healthy one week, but in a matter of days be broken and shrivelled up in bed. It is horrible to think that this just happens to one person; here it happens every day.
Despite all of the sorrow and darkness that seems to dwell in this place I am rarely discouraged. I know I am where I’m supposed to be. We worship about three times a week and I always feel that God is with me. It’s a good feeling. I love this verse and its promise. Always delight yourself in the Lord.
‘Delight yourself in the Lord
And he will give you the
Desires of your heart’
-Psalm 37:4
I love you I love you I love I love you…. Why is Natasha Bedingfield in my head right now?… I couldn’t tell you
