I physically hurt when I think about the child whom I met in the Philippines that seemed as though he was ready to collapse from not having food, nor water. I mourn when I see the child outside our base in swaziland who chews on plastic because of his pain from hunger; he watches me eat my third meal today. I weep for the family in Guatemala that lost their 12 year old daughter. I can only imagine the anguish and pain that her dad felt as he could do nothing but watch the river overtake her.
I hurt, I mourn, and I weep.
They say that to weep
Means you are weak.
They say if you mourn
You must be stronger.
They say if you hurt
You are but a feather
Controlled by the ways of wind.
I have learned to say differently
I say if you mourn
You have strength
I say if you hurt
You are a vessel
Chosen and created for something more
Guided by the ways of Abba
I say if you weep
You have much courage
If you do not weep
If you do not hurt
If you do not mourn
You may be stubborn and weak
You wear a mask and live for little
Those who do mourn, weep, and hurt
Are those of much courage
You see, to have much courage
Is not to swing your sword
Is not to attack, or defend
But it is the mature
And settled willingness
To suffer for Christ’s sake
Let us be courageous enough
To hold on to the hope and glory
That Christ has laid for us
Let us have the courage
To be weak.
