Him Above All Else

The critical question for our generation -is this: If you could have heaven, with no sickness, and with all the friends you ever had on earth, and all the food you ever liked, and all the leisure activities you ever enjoyed, and all the natural beauties you ever saw, all the physical pleasures you ever tasted, and no human conflict or any natural disasters, could you be satisfied with heaven, if Christ was not there?
– John Piper, God is the Gospel              (taken from Crazy Love by Francis Chan)

As I read that paragraph, all of those things sounded so appealing because of where I’m living. But when I got to the end of the paragraph, I was shocked. I’m not okay with that. I don’t want to ever be satisfied with a heaven without Christ. But it really made me think.

It made me think about my relationship with Christ. And how He is truly all that I will ever need. If heaven only consisted of Him and nothing else, that’d be what I want. I desire to spend time with Him. I’ve been learning more and more that all I have to do is fully rely on Him. I passionately seek Him every day because He is my life sustainer.

This past month has been a huge time of growth in my relationship with God. I’m realizing that He comes first. I start and end my day with Him. And then everything else benefits because of Christ being my cornerstone.

I look forward to our relationship growing deeper. I look forward to more time spent with God. I look forward to learning more. I look forward to hearing His voice and seeing His face, daily. Because I know this journey is far from over.
