On Wednesdays we take the day to decide where we think God is leading us.
This week me, Tori, and Becca decided to go on a prayer walk and do a couple
house visits. Last week we visited Musa’s (a man on the d-team that works for AIM) gogo. She had previously had a
stroke so it was difficult for her to do work around the homestead, but by the
time we had visited her the work was already done. This week we wanted to go
back to her homestead to see if there was anything we could do for her around
the homestead. She was not doing well- they suspect that she has ulcers. She
hadn’t been able to eat for a few days and she spent her time resting inside.
We took some time to pray for her and read scripture to her. When we asked if
there was anything we could do around the homestead to help her out her
caretaker put us to work. We washed all the bedding, scrubbed and polished the
floors, and the guys did the yard work.
They attempted to teach us how to wash laundry their way but we basically
sucked. They had a good time laughing at us. It was suddenly easier when they
let us wash the bedding with our feet. All of the work didn’t really seem like
a big deal to us. That night Musa visited our homestead and said his gogo was
in tears from the way we blessed her. Then he told us one of us must stay back
after the trip and live on the homestead now that we know how to work like a
Swazi woman. Obviously I decided to make this sacrifice…so now I won’t be
coming back to America. Um- just kidding. We all just laughed at him since he
jokes all the time with us.
The next day (Thursday) after our devotions at the High School Musa had us
go to his gogos to pray over her. She was doing worse. She still couldn’t eat
and now she was groaning in pain. Our team prayed over her and sang worship. On
Friday Musa said she was much better. She was smiling and able to get back to
shouting at the little ones. To us it wasn’t much of a big deal to do those
little things, but the Lord used us to bless her and encourage her. I really
hope to go back and visit with her again this coming week.
God is teaching me to be still and listen to him. The concept in itself is
hard since our minds tend to want to be filled with every possible distraction.
But when we do listen he can use us to bless others in tremendous ways.
