Welcome to Swazi: The Land of “Hurry Up and Wait”

This is where:

-you just accept the fact that there is a large pile of dirt and dust at the bottom of your sleeping bag
-Swazi house music is just older American music
-you realize that in the end, fat cakes are the only thing worth spending money on
-Friday nights consist of extra spoonfuls of peanut butter
-you literally never know what will happen next
-you think that Riverstone Mall is your safe place, but then you hear that 2 hours earlier, a police officer was murdered
-the internet cafe ruins the rest of your free day because it’s so stressful
-you no longer know proper American social skills and what that entails
-you feel more comfortable at a Swazi party than at any American party you’ve ever been to
-Swazi party=church service
-you look forward to house visits in the community because you get grapefruit
-no matter how many times you’ve seen the sunset, it never ceases to amaze you
-22 women of God experience the power and presence of God
-music stirs your soul
-every single person is absolutely beautiful
-you receive marriage proposals at least 5 times a day
-you get really good at ignoring creepy men by pretending you don’t understand their English, because you usually don’t
-you think you know how a Swazi person’s name is spelled, but you soon find out that you were not aware of the 15 other “silent letters” at the beginning of their name
-sitting on a toilet is a luxury
-you can sleep anywhere and in any position
-you have bleach stains on all of your clothes from washing dishes
-you do bucket showers with an average of 4 people

This very well be my last blog in Swaziland because we are leaving next thursday. I am in love with this beautiful country and its people. 4 other girls and I spoke to high schoolers at a school in Manzini and were incredibly blessed by God amazing sovereignty in the whole situation. We will be getting emails from the students so we can keep in contact back in the states. It was not a Christian school, but the man who wanted us to come speak (a motivational speaker) told us that we needed to talk about why in the world we would come all the way over to Swaziland. The only reason why is because we love Jesus and we love His people. We were able to speak the name of Jesus in that school and we know that the students there were changed. God has given us so many incredible opportunities to share His name! There’s SO much more to write, but it would take years and years.

God is so good. I am so excited for this last week. We are going to be extremely busy and so when I get home, I will be completely exhausted. But that is exactly what I want: to be empty of myself and full of God. I have made so many unlikely friends here, in all different places. I will miss them so much, but whenever tears start to come to my eyes, God reminds me that we will all be worshiping together in heaven…forever!
