Treasured

The definition of treasure is anything or person greatly valued or highly prized.

Deuteronomy 7:6-9 For you are a people holy to the Lord your God.  The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.  The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous that other peoples, for you were the fewest of all people.  But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery.  Know therefore that the Lord you God is God; he is the faithful God; keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.

You are God’s treasured possession.  I am God’s treasured possession.

God treasures all of us.  We are his children.  We belong to Him.  He values each and every one of us.

& We have this treasure in jars of clay.  2 Corinthians 4:6-11  For God, who said, Let light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.  But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.  We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.  We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.  For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake; so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body.  Verses 16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart.  Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.  For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.  So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.  For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Today (Wed.) I walked to the general store in Timbutini with Jillian, Brie and Natalie.  While we were there, our little friends were also there!  One of my favorites here:  seeing little kids who are at the Timbutini. While sitting with Sibukiso: being treasured was on my mind.  We are all treasured.  We are all beloved.

Here are some of my favorite kids from the Timbutini carepoint.  They were all there right when we got to the general store.

Highlights from this week:

Sunday while at church the pastor talked about waiting upon the Lord, abiding in him, and remaining in him.  It was hard to understand the translation but those were the three main points I understand from the message.

Waiting upon the Lord.  Psalm 130:5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits and in his word I put my hope.

Abide in the Lord.  John 15:4-5 Abide in me, and I will abide in you.  No branch can bear fruit by itself, it must abide in the vine.  Neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in me.  I am the vine; you are the branches.  If a man abides in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Follow the Lord:  Matthew 4:19 Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will make you fishers of men.

Tuesday we went to Hope House in Manzini.  Khosi was sitting outside!  She is so beautiful.  Tara and I sat outside with her for a good hour.  We talked about how God is working miracles in her life.  She is confident in God that it’s only him who is healing her body day by day.  We read a few Psalms.  We talked about snakes, she hates snakes.  I found out that if you sprinkle salt on a frog, it kills it.  She told us (this was repeated from previous times visiting her) that 6 months ago she was unable to move.  She was unable to move her legs and right hand. Within the last 2 weeks she can now move her right hand, use her left hand and arm, move her legs to walk.  It is all because of Jesus.  I am still amazed.  She is a living miracle.  Jesus Christ is the miracle worker.  When I read scripture to Khosi, I love reading scripture that says right hand.  Psalm 16:8  I have set the Lord always before me.  Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.  Psalm 73:23-24  I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.  You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.  I loved reading these verses to her; right hand is vividly stated.  Khosi’s right hand was unable to function.  Now her right hand freely moves.  Praise Jesus!
