Hey everyone! (Sanibonani)
Well- as you know- we are now in Africa and it very much feels like we are in Africa. The landscape is beautiful as well as the people. Most of our team has gotten a little sunburned since it’s a big change from the winter weather. I’m not missing the cold weather though 🙂
This week our team has been viewing the various ministries that we can be a part of. We’ve visited multiple care points, a house for the sick, the women who are a part of timbali crafts, and a school. At this point we are just seeing what our different contacts needs are and where we feel lead to minister.
On Thursday after our daily tours and such, some of us had the opportunity to go back to one of the care points nearby. We got to meet some of the older kids who are usually in school until late afternoon. At first I wasn’t really sure what to do since I’m just getting used to the cultural norms and their language (si’swati). BUT who knew that tag is kind of a universal game. I started playing with a couple pre-teen girls and just hung around them trying to communicate in our broken language. I have the hardest time saying some of their names but they were still so sweet and didn’t laugh too much at me even though I’m sure I sounded ridiculous. They started teaching me some of their games and dances. Their patience was incredible. One of the games we gathered in a circle and two people linked together going around to the others singing. The girls pick someone and you have to chose which person you want to dance with by saying in si’swati something along the lines of “get out of here sista” with attitude. By the end of our time together the girls were literally hanging on me and asking me when I’d be back. I’m excited to see a relationship develop with these girls. I still don’t know what to expect out of our time here, but I can’t wait to see how God continues to move through our team and in this nation. God has already come before us in preparation. Our team is learning to rely on his strength.
