1 Corinthians 13:8. Love never ends.
Something God has continually been speaking to me and revealing to me for the past month and a half is the fact that love never ends. A while ago I started studying the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22 and the first part of the fruit is love so the thought that love never ends comes from dwelling on the fruit.
Stop and think about it for a second. Love never ends.
Love never ends.
Ever.
Never.
John 15:12 says, “This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you.” We are called to love above all other commandments and not only to love but to love the way that God does and God’s love is unending. I think this thought keeps running through my mind because sometimes, especially here on the mission field, it is easy to get tired of loving. I know that sounds horrible but it is the truth. There are some days where by the end of the day you are done and so tired. The though of picking up another crazy two year old makes you want to lay down and go to sleep and not talk to anyone for a long time or if you have to throw another child in the air it feels like your arms will permanently fall off. I mean you still do it but you are tired.
The thing that I have come to realize is that it is not about us forcing ourselves to continue loving when our attitude says not to it is actually about the fact that we are only vessels and it is God’s love flowing through us that never ends. Love never ends because God’s love never stops. I find that with this mindset, God’s mindset, “Having this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 2:5) you never tire of acting the way God does because it is Him acting through you.
As I was learning this I kept seeing the picture of a cup overflowing continuously because liquid was being poured into it by a pitcher in heavenly places. We are vessels, mere jars of clay (2Cor 4:7.) but we are always filled to overflowing with love because God will never stop pouring it through us if we let Him.
I am reminded of my favourite Bible song from when I was little which says, “Running over, running over, my cup is full and running over. Since the Lord saved me I am happy as can be my cup is full and running over.”
Love because love never ends. Praise the Lord.
