Philile & Hawida

Wednesday we got the chance to go to the hospital in Manzini. This hospital
is run by the government, a government that doesn’t fufill the rights of the
people. Patients in the hospital will be delayed care and treatment so that the
government doesn’t have to pay to send them elsewhere. Children are insured but
don’t receive the privileges. Many of the people in this hospital seem to have
been forgotten and lost much of their dignity.

Upon first entering the women’s ward with a few girls on my team, there was
no presence of joy, something we had to rely on Jesus to supply for us. We had
Titi with us to translate so we could find out what was wrong with the person
who was sick and if we could pray over them and their families. We prayed with
everyone in the first room who weren’t considered contagious and moved on to
the children’s ward next.

Enter Philile and Hawida. Off to the side there was a long room where
extremely malnourished babies were being taken care of. Two of them were found
abandoned. In the corner I see a girl looking longingly at her baby girl. As I
approached, my heart was drawn close instantly.

Her name is Philile, she is 20 years old, just like me. Her daughter’s name
is Hawida, 11 months old. Hawida’s skin was loose and thin, shying away from
her tiny bones. Her eyes are bulging and her spirit is quiet from weakness.
Philile has been living at the hospital for about a week and hopes that her and
her daughter will be able to go home at the end of the month. She has no job,
she isn’t in school, and the father is not in the picture.

She told me how she loves jazz music, singing & dancing with Hawida,
and wants to learn how to play the drums. She has two younger brothers and a
mother, no father. I prayed for healing over Hawida and strength, joy and peace
for Philile. It is simply unbelievable to me that Philile is my age, bearing
this on her own. The way she looks at Hawida shows how much compassion she has,
how much dedication. I couldn’t help but wonder who else comes and talks to
Philile? Who else tells her she’s beautiful and can overcome this time? It
blows my mind that God has picked me to be His voice. Why me? God can reach any
heart. Anywhere. Any time. I am thanking God for the opportunity I had and will
have to go back and hear more of her story.

Please pray for hope and healing for these two lovely ladies of our Father!
