Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; but how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
I’ve had the opportunity to start building a relationship with this wonderful family. There is a grandmother named Gladys, her daughter Candy, and Candy’s son Nagesh. In our unscheduled, free ministy time, we often spend the afternoon with them. I love to sit in their living room and drink tea or play cards with these lovely ladies. They bring so much joy to my life.
I feel a special connection with Candy. She is the same age as me but I thought she was older because she has been through a lot and you can tell in her face. She got pregnant at 14. Now, she is taking a break from her schooling to take care of her mom, son, and the house. I think she needs a friend and I’m so excited to be that friend. I want to encourage her and build her up. Candy loves when we visit but she usually hangs back and finds things to keep herself busy. I’m praying for more doors to open and opportunites for bonding to come along.
Like in Ecclesiastes it says, two is better than one… “For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.” In our short time here, I hope to be that friend to lift her up and help restore her beauty and youth. Please pray for this relationship to grow deeper and stronger as we spend more time together.
