Learning

I’ve only been in Swaziland for about a week, but it feels like much longer. We are being hosted by a family in Timbutini, which is about 20 minutes away from Manzini. The thing that I was learning about at camp and have continued to learn here is what it means to be in community. We have to help each other carry buckets of water to the shower, cook food together, clean the homestead together, and even wash each other’s hair.

Yesterday we went to the town of Nosko, which is about a hour drive away. A small group of us went to a young man houses to pray for healing. He doesn’t seem to have much time to live. He is only 21.  It’s hard to imagine that just a short few weeks a go a healthy young  man playing football with his friends. He was laying on a mat outside his home with some of his family members. We prayed for healing, we prayed for deliverance and life to be sprung forth in his life. There wasn’t any change in the way he was feeling.

It would be easy to be discouraged. But I’m reminding myself that it’s never about us when we pray for others. It’s about God. He is who He says He is. God can heal the sick, I can’t. God is sovereign and above all else. It’s never about us, but the character of God. He just looks for willing and empty vessels so He can fill up and use for His glory. And all of life is in His hands.

And some photos…
