3 AM, sweating like crazy, tossing back and forth…the biggest of the roosters decides to make his presence known at our gate. Someone casually whispers, is this real life?
Oh Swaziland. I could still muster up enough brain power after all the traveling to look around at the absolutely stunning country. Never could I have imagined myself traveling through the enormous hills of this hope filled countryside. The people wave at you with the biggest smile no matter who you are or what your purpose is.
The most comforting smiles came from the children that were walking home from school yesterday. They were standing outside the gate and everyone of them wanted me to fill up their water bottles. Ugh, I couldn’t say no 🙂 Obviously! Everytime I would come back to the gate their would be one more child who would hold out their empty bottle and look at me with those huge brown eyes, asking for some water. They even asked me what my Swazi name was and laughed when I said Emily. On a side note..the children love laughing at you when you mess something up in their culture. super cute. Anyways, they gave me my Swazi name that started with an N and I have no idea as to how to go about spelling it. After about eight trips back and forth they said thank you and were on their way. I will make sure I am there to see their beautiful faces each day.
Tomorrow we will begin to go to the care points, where the children and women receive food and some schooling. I can’t wait for the fire of God to move through our team and see him work in these children.
