I have tick bite fever….

Philisiwe Mhlanga is a mother of two, her husband died in 2003. She’s been a patient at the HOPE house for exactly a year.

Every Monday and Friday, Ryan and I visit her, and every single time he brings her a flower.  Because of the injections she receives, one of the side affects is difficulty hearing.  We still spend time reading the Bible and praying for her every single time anyways.

This past Friday, Ryan, Behki and I went to spend the afternoon with her. She told us that she was supposed to be released to go back home back in February, but TB has destroyed her lungs and she has to stay even longer. All she wants is to be back at home with her two children, and to be able to work to provide things like shoes and school supplies for them. Her eyes started to well up with tears as she talked about what a burden she felt to people, and how she just wants to be well and to be able to take care of herself and her children. As she shared, all of our eyes started to water. It’s the first time on this trip where I felt like God had to come through. He has to show himself for who He is, He is the ultimate healer and He hears all of our prayers. He has formed Philisiwe, and He knows her. I believe that He will come through for her, not for us, but to bring glory to Himself.

At the HOPE house there is also a woman we call Anna. A couple of weeks ago we brought her and her father-in-law, Themba some Si’swaiti Bibles in large print so they could read without straining their eyes. To see their faces light up and hear them read to each other the personal message we left in their Bibles has been one of the highlights of this trip so far.

Lastly, there is this woman named Badeslie. The first time we met her, she was confused, distraught and paranoid. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve seen such a change in her spirit. She smiles a lot more now. She speaks about how much she trusts in God to take care of her, that she believes He is working in her life. It’s been encouraging to know that our 30 minute visits to her twice a week have made such a impact in her life. I’m learning that the best gift anyone of us can ever offer to someone is just love. To be the heart, hands, feet of Jesus to a world that desperately needs to know Him.
