Ever since we have been here and visited the Hope House, a few
of us girls have felt led to pray for this man named Bernard. He is very elderly
and has been blind since the age of forty. We have prayed every time we have gone
for him to be healed, just as we knew the Lord wanted us to. However, we have
yet to see any sort of results.
This was something that was beginning to really frustrate and
discourage us. Why would God ask us to pray for healing in his eyes if he was not
going to follow through with actually healing him?! Even with no result though,
we continued to be obedient and pray.
After our last time there I could not help but wonder, why
did God have us do that? Why did we go our entire time in Manzini without
seeing Bernard’s sight return?
Then, while in Nelspruit,
South Africa on
our debrief I was talking to my dad. I was expressing our confusion in the
results of our time at the Hope House when he told me something that made me
look at it completely differently. Maybe the healing God is doing is not for
Bernard to see the world as we know it. Maybe God is showing him something so
much more beautiful in his blindness because of our prayers. Maybe what God
wanted to show him is the beauty of the world we cannot yet see.
When we think of healing, we think of immediate results. We
want results that we can write about, or that people will be interested to hear
about. But sometimes God does not work the way we want Him to. Sometimes He
shows the people we pray for something so much more valuable than we can
imagine. Something that is not of the nasty world we live in. I cannot imagine being
more content with the results of him seeing what I see, because what I see cannot
even compare to what God’s showing Him, and I am extremely grateful for that.
