Hey Everybody!
This first week of training camp has been very uplifting and challenging. When I first got to the airport and met my team we were told that we needed to find our own way to an address in the middle of Atlanta. When we finally got there we found out that it was a homeless shelter. Once we put our bags down and ate we were informed that we were going to spend the night on the streets of Atlanta. The temperature was below freezing and we were not prepared for the weather. Our team learned how to work well together very quickly. I learned a lot that night. Before this experience I pitied homeless people. They spend every night out on the streets not knowing where they are going to sleep or where their next meal is coming from. Despite their hardships most of the men and women we met were full of hope and love for God. This was so encouraging for me. It was a reminder that God is always there, loving us even when times are hard. I think this experience helped prepare me and my team for the three months ahead of us. We learned how to minister to others and hear God speak to us even when we are uncomfortable, and cold, and tired.
My team is getting along really well. It feels like we have been friends for years instead of only knowing each other for a few days. We have a lot of fun together and have found that we entertain ourselves pretty easily, which is a good thing going into this mission trip.
Thank you so much for your prayer and love and support. I know that God is going to use this team in some really awesome ways in Swazi!
God Bless,
Becca
