Week One Recap

TEAM SWAZI SURVIVED WEEK ONE!! Here’s a quick recap of what we have been up to for the past week.

From the first day at training camp, our team had a genuine bond with each other. None of us were afraid to go deep with people we had literally met that same day which plays a lot into the closeness that our team has already come to know as normal.

After spending 15 hours in the Atlanta airport on Monday the 25th, we boarded our plane for our 15 hour flight at 7:20 p.m and landed in Johannesburg, South Africa on Tuesday night the 26th. There we met our ministry contact, Stephen, who brought us to an adorable little hostil for the night.

Bright and early the next day we set off for our site in Swaziland that we will be calling home for the next month and a half. After making it through the border (with new stamps in our passports yay!) we finally made it to the Anchor Center in Nsoko, Swaziland.

Almost instantly we were greeted with hugs, smiles, and hand holding from the Swazi children. The language barrier is still pretty rough as it’s early on, but a smile is universal and there were definitely plenty of those to go around from both Swazis and Americans alike.

Our first day of work consisted of clearing out a storage bin and ridding it of all the random stuff that was stashed inside it. Now, you may think that sounds easy but let me tell you, the African sun is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.

(Yes mom I put on sunscreen, I got sunburnt anyway 🙂 )

So that can sometimes make work very tiring. Luckily, we are blessed to have water to drink and even though it’s not the coldest, it’s still refreshing and makes the work a little easier.

Please pray for us as we start our ministry next week. I am so excited to see what God brings to the table in the coming months. I feel super blessed to have the team that I do, and I thank God that He brought all these strangers together to form this team in order for His will to be done.

Thank you again to all of the people who donated, bought t-shirts, and prayed for me as I prepared to leave for this mission! I wouldn’t have been able to be sitting on my bunk surrounded by a mosquito net writing this without you. So from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!

Love you all!
